Meet Josh Grimm | Health Coach + Founder of FITNUTJune 29, 2021 We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Grimm and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josh, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success? I’ve always been a man that listens and attempts to align with the voice in his head and pays attention to the feeling and intuition in his gut. This is how it begins, right? Knowing who you are and how to make your abilities work for you. Mindfulness is my strength and the vehicle I have to achieve whatever it is I want to do… because I’m able to listen to source and apply what I know of me. This is what I value most in my business success as it’s a direct correlation of who I authentically am. I rarely make a decision to act unless I am totally comfortable with it or I believe in the results it will produce. Sometimes, this can deter me from taking certain risks that others may be more forthright of but my belief of my innate ability to stay aligned on my path has, thus far, led me down a road of successes. Trust yourself. Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more? I started the brand FITNUT in 2014 after returning from an extensive period of time in Southeast Asia. Toward the end of my 6 month stay, I experienced a painful breakup with my partner of two years and was feeling very isolated with moments of great sadness. I decided to volunteer with a children’s orphanage outside of Siem Reap, Cambodia with the hopes of becoming elevated enough to feel some lightness again. I was incredibly moved by my experience. My inspiration felt by the kids and workers at the orphanage motivated me to create a brand that not only helps people but has a giving- back component. I was inspired to build a brand that focused on what matters most to me: FITNESS, NUTRITION, TRAVEL and GIVING BACK. Upon my return to NYC after that trip, I started working with the Cambodian Community Dream Association (CCDO) and was named an ambassador to their organization in which I raised more money through fundraising events in NYC. Now, I take a percentage of annual sales and donate to a variety of organizations. Since the existence of FITNUT, we have raised over $10,000 independently through fundraising efforts that I have executed for various organizations in Cambodia. FITNUT today is a fusion brand of private personal training, nutrition coaching, group fitness, charity work, and luxury fitness retreats around the globe. Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to? New York is home. It has been for almost 20 years and it will always have my heart. I know it well… however I’m inspired by the extensive travel I’ve done through the years. I’ve been to 53 different countries in the last decade and find food and culture influences that I try to seek out in my home turf. Luckily, New York is a melting pot of food, architecture, and culture. A week in my city would be focused on my favorite places to eat and sit for a conversation over good food and a drink. I live in West Chelsea near the gorgeous Hudson River Park, the Highline, Little Island, and Chelsea Market. I find these to be some of the most architecturally interesting places to walk around and take in the sites. The galleries and the warehouse lofts and condos always make for the most exquisite backdrop to get on your bike and ride with a friend or solo. Grab some food at any of the local restaurants and watch the sunset. Although, I’m a morning guy and love a good bike ride or outdoor workout on the Charles Street Pier in the West Village. I’ve spent a large amount of time in Asia so Asian food is usually a part of my diet when I’m eating out. I love fish of all kinds and I am always ready for a delicious branzino at my neighborhood joint, Pastis. Saigon Shack in Greenwich Village had the best Pho in the city… hands down. And Sugar Fish is my go-to for take our sushi. Gramercy Tavern has always been my place where I take a guy for a date or a solo dinner out. I’ve been going frequently for 10 years I believe. Good food, good wine, and a good bike ride in my side of town is a great way to spend a day or a week. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? I wouldn’t be the man I am today without the love and support of my friends and family that I trust implicitly. I’m quiet but I’m full of emotion and passion which I share whole-heartedly with this small grouping that has impacted my behaviors and influenced my path. To some, it can seem to be a bit of a challenge to get to know me on a personal level as I’m somewhat guarded. But, the friends and family that I have in my life are among my biggest influencers in my business as my passions are directly related to what experiences I’ve pulled from them.
